Over 45,000 attendees gathered in Chicago to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). The conference brought together radiology professionals for education opportunities, networking, and provided a forum for collaboration on the latest innovations, including 3D Printing—which was even one of the top 5 trends of the whole conference.
For the second year now, RSNA has brought 3D printing to the forefront with various educational sessions and four hands-on training sessions. Led by the renowned Frank Rybicki, MD, PhD, Chief of Medical Imaging at The Ottawa Hospital, the workshops were powered by the Mimics® Innovation Suite software and showcased the Materialise 3D printing expertise. These four sold-out workshops trained attendees on taking patient-specific imaging and creating a 3D digital model. From there, the file created in Mimics could be exported to any 3D printer, regardless of printer technology, providing a unique advantage.
“RSNA provided a great platform for educating attendees about the 3D printing process and raising awareness about the benefits,” said Bryan Crutchfield, North America Managing Director of Materialise. “Creating 3D-printed anatomical models takes more than just a printer. Its success relies heavily on the quality of the data provided to the printer. This can be achieved by using a validated, certified software like our Mimics Innovation Suite.”
Throughout the week, Materialise’s booth was buzzing with activity – software demos, 3D printing discussions, and more. Attendees were eager to learn how they can implement 3D printing at their institution and how it can have an impact on patient care.
Also during the show, Materialise hosted a 3D Printing Networking reception, featuring Dr. Frank Rybicki (Ottawa Hospital), Dr. Jonathan Morris (Mayo Clinic) and Dr. Justin Ryan (Phoenix Children’s Hospital). Each spoke about how 3D printing is the next imaging modality and how they are implementing 3D printing at their institutions. Dr. Morris from Mayo Clinic said it best when he said, “The important thing you have to do is start.”
And that’s where Materialise can help. Backed by a comprehensive quality control system and over 25 years of experience, Materialise can provide everything needed from certified software for medical image processing to consultation on the available 3D printing technologies and training for each step of the process.
